From 27th to 29th November, volunteers from the Greater Acomb Community Forum put on their gardening gloves, rolled up their sleeves, and planted up the beautiful new planters in Front Street. We have been involved with selecting the plants and will be looking after the plants in the long term. So far, Dwarf Oaks trees have been planted, reflecting Acomb's history as the original village was first established in a heavily wooded area of oaks. The City of York Council welcomed our support and the benefits that this will bring to the area.
Earlier this year, the Greater Acomb Community Forum invited the City of York Council to incorporate the forum's logo into the Front Street regeneration work to create a unified identity for Acomb. The logo depicts a heart-shaped acorn and oak leaf, representing Acomb's heritage, diversity, and community love. This idea was welcomed by the city council, which supported the community-led approach. It was also very warmly received by residents at the Joint Acomb, Westfield, and Holgate Ward Committee in July. In early December, the first totem and community notice board, which have the Greater Acomb icon on them, were installed. The Greater Acomb Community Forum is making a big impact on Front Street; the clear and bold design on the new wayfinding totem and community noticeboard makes Front Street feel more welcoming and homely for residents and visitors.
