Halifax Bank has announced that it wishes to close its Acomb Branch.
As a result of the change in government, as it is Acomb’s last bank they cannot close until there is alternative banking available for the community.
Consequently, a banking hub is to open in Acomb. The final location is yet to be determined, but a temporary banking hub will open in March, again location yet to be finalised.
A banking hub will provide basic banking services for Acomb residents and businesses to:
- Withdraw cash
- Deposit cash and cheques
- Make balance enquiries
- Pay utility bills
- Potentially talk to a community banker from your own Bank.
The 5 most popular banks used by Acomb residents will each have a day when one of their representatives will be at the hub.
The banking hub will be accessible to all.
The banking hub will support people with general emergencies such as bank scams everyday that it is open.
The general banking services will be available 9 to 5 Monday to Friday. Questions specific to a particular bank will be answered on the day their staff are present.
We are very excited by this development in Acomb Front Street and expect that this will increase business in the local area.
