Explanation of design
The name Acomb derived from the Old English ‘acum’ meaning 'at the oak trees', and indicates that the original village was first established in a heavily wooded area of oaks. The logo depicts a heart-shaped acorn and oak leaf, representing Acomb's heritage, diversity, and community love.
How is came about
The former Acomb & Westfield Neighbourhood Forum reorganised into the Greater Acomb Community Forum (GACF) in January 2024, and designed a new brand/ identity for the forum and the Greater Acomb area, so that Acomb is unified under one community-led identity.
Next steps
Earlier this year GACF invited the City of York Council to incorporate the design into the Front Street regeneration work to create an identity for Acomb (find out more about the UKSPF project here). For example, this could be used as part of the wayfinding scheme for the wider Acomb area. This idea was welcomed by the council who supported the community-led approach. It was also very warmly received residents at the Joint Acomb, Westfield and Holgate Ward Committee on 10 July. We now want to share and test the logo and idea with you - the wider Acomb community: Tell us what you think to the design & incorporating it into the Front Street project as a new identity for the area.
